Afton Hutchings Petroff Gomez Deitz, 81, of West Valley City, Utah, passed away December 29, 2018 after a courageous battle with MDS and Pancreatic Cancer.
Afton was born May 21, 1937, in Minersville, Utah, to Elmo Robert and June Osborne Hutchings. She was the second of six children. Her brothers are Perry, LuDell and Mark. Her sisters are Sharon and Claudia.
Afton married Bobby Petroff April 5, 1956, in the Salt Lake Temple. They had five children Bobby Jr, Brian, David, Paul and Robin. They later divorced and she married Daniel Gomez. He died in 1982. After being widowed for almost 25 years Afton married her friend from Church Robert (Bob) Deitz.
She retired from the Work Force Services Division for the state of Utah. She loved to crochet and was an avid reader.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed serving in many different callings. Afton and Bob served for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as Sacrament Meeting Director for Alpine Meadow Nursing Home up until she died.
Afton is survived by her spouse Bob Deitz, West Valley City, UT; her children Bobby Petroff Jr (Sandra) Bountiful, UT; Brian Petroff, West Valley City, UT; David Petroff (Sharon) West Valley City, UT; Paul Petroff (Roxanne) Clearfield, UT; Robin Curry (Larry) Downey, ID. Her step-children Debbie Huni (Asa) Stansbury Park, UT; Patty Trujillo (Al ) West Valley City, UT; Robert Deitz Jr (Mhuyen) Murray, UT; Anna Dare (Josh)Murray, UT; 22 grandchildren, 51 greatgrandchildren. Her siblings Perry Hutching(Sharlene), Clearfield, UT; LuDell Hutchings(Jo) St. George, UT; Sharon Steele, Clearfield, UT; Mark Hutchings (Kathy)Vancouver, WA. In addition to her 3 dogs.
Afton is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Bobby Petroff, her second husband Dan Gomez, sister Claudia, daughter-in-law Bobbie Lynn Petroff and grandson Jason Petroff.
The funeral will be held Thursday, January 3, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Jordan View Ward, 1165 West 2320 South, West Valley City, Utah, at 11:00a.m. A viewing will be held that morning from 9:00a.m.-10:30a.m. A family prayer will be held directly after the viewing and prior to the funeral.

Interment will be in the Orem city cemetery with graveside services being held at 2:30p.m that day.
