Cheryl Marie Sweatt Camlott, 74, was released from her physical body to join the energy of the Universe on August 18, 2022.

She was born to William Sweatt (deceased) and Helen Joughin Sweatt in San Luis Obispo, California on June 16, 1948. She was the oldest of 4 children and is survived by her mother and 3 sisters; Sandra (Steve) Bench, Rhonda (Chris) Graef, and Leslie Hunley.

While growing up, Cheryl’s father William Sweatt was transferred often with his company. Her mother Helen made sure she and her sisters adjusted well to every new location. Throughout the moves, Cheryl always had permanent family roots at her grandparents’ ranch in Santa Ynez, CA. She was one of 14 grandchildren. Her cousins and sisters were her best friends. She loved her parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles, very much. She was even lucky enough to have had her wonderful aunt, Joanna Joughin Hanly, as a teacher at Solvang Elementary. Cheryl enjoyed participating in her school’s various choral groups. She also loved her many art classes. Cheryl was a wonderful big sister. She was always loving, generous, and giving. When she received her first paycheck in high school from Morrow’s Nut House, she spent every penny on gifts for her family. Cheryl’s high school years were spent at Granite High in Salt Lake City, Utah. While living in Salt Lake City, she met and married Larry William Kumik (deceased 1976). Cheryl and Larry had two children, Adrienne and Jeremy.

On July 18, 1977, she married Wolfgang Camlott in Salt Lake City, Utah. They later moved their family to Santa Ynez, California where she loved that she was able to live “next door” to her Grandpa Andy and Aunt Sis on the Joughin Ranch. Cheryl was an incredibly talented person with a keen sense of style. While living in Santa Ynez she designed and ran the gift shop at Federico’s Mexican Restaurant. In 1990 Wolf and Cheryl moved to Port Hueneme and she began a career with the Camarillo Health Care District. Her style was highlighted as a magazine author/editor and suite designer, among the many other hats she wore as the Facilities Director. In 1996 she was recognized as the Camarillo Chamber of Commerce Public Servant of the Year. The greatest demonstration of her style, however, was always her home which looked like it came from the pages of a magazine. She and her daughter always had a running joke in which Adrienne would come to visit and say, “oh I really like that (whatever it was)” and Cheryl would respond, “oh I bought that for you, but it looked so good right there I decided to keep it.” She could make things look good just by setting them down in a temporary location. To the very end of her life, she received compliments on her wit and her beauty. Her energy will forever brighten the universe.

Cheryl is survived by her mother, husband, three sisters, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by her two children: Adrienne Kumik of Utah and Jeremy (Allyson) Kumik of Hawaii and her one cherished granddaughter, Simone Kumik of Hawaii.

At Cheryl’s request there will be no formal funeral services. Her ashes will be scattered to numerous locations that brought her joy. Please consider celebrating her life and love for her animals by donating in her honor to your local animal shelter.
