Elizabeth Dunia Banford

Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother Elizabeth Dunia Banford
passed away peacefully on Friday, January 8, 2021, in Draper, Utah.

Elizabeth was born in Lima, Peru, to Hector Ramiro Hurtado and Luisa
Victoria Duran Chamochumbi. She is preceded in death by her parents,
and her brother, Victor Arturo Hurtado. She is survived by her husband
of 52 years, James Phillip Banford; children James W. Banford, Deborah
(John) Hiskey, Christopher (Mary) Banford, and Samuel (Alex Runolfson)
Banford. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Owen Hiskey,
Moses Banford, and Matthew Banford, who were the center of her world.
She passed away with her beloved chihuahua Karlo by her side.

When Elizabeth was 21, she moved to the United States to study English
and improve her career opportunities in Peru. Her original plans
changed, however, when she met and fell in love with Jim Banford while
attending Brigham Young University. Elizabeth married Jim on December
27, 1968, in the Oakland California LDS Temple. They eventually moved
to Texas where Jim accepted a teaching position at San Antonio
College. Together they raised four children.

Elizabeth continually sought to improve herself and provide for her
family. She completed a difficult nursing program in order to provide
for the needs of a growing family. When her work schedule interfered
with her family life, she went back to school to pursue bachelors and
masters degrees in Spanish Literature. She taught Spanish classes in
Texas and Utah, at San Antonio College and Utah Valley University
respectively.

Elizabeth taught for over 30 years and she loved her students and her
students loved her. She was a caring and dedicated professor who
helped her students excel. It was common for her students to seek out
her help with schoolwork as well as personal challenges.

The family would like to thank all those who have reached out to share
their love and stories during this time.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 11:00 AM at the LDS chapel located at 348 East Manti Drive in Draper, Utah.
