Harry Nicholas Mihos

Harry Nicholas Mihos, 88, passed away on November 1st, 2017 in Salt Lake City.

Harry is remembered for his genuine kindness. He wasn’t just a people person—he really cared about other’s happiness and did whatever he could to help. He was such a bright light in the lives of those who knew him.

He was born in Desfina, Greece. His parents were Nicholas and Elizabeth Mihos. Harry immigrated from Greece in 1956 with his beloved brother, Aleck Mihos, to assist their Uncle Harry Miles in the hotel business. They spend a lot of time together learning the English language, customs and way of life in their new country. They worked hard and were instrumental in the success of the Miles Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City which is now the Perry Hotel.  He was a skilled business man specializing in the hotel and real estate business among other things.

Preceded in death his parents, wife (Anna) and siblings: Kosta, Harry, Sotiri, Sinecio, Eleni, Aleck and Athanasia.  Survived by sons, John and Pete, granddaughters Tia and Telise and many nieces and nephews, including Nickie and Victoria living in Salt Lake City.

He was always so very proud of his nieces and loved to spend time with family & friends. He also loved to go deer hunting and other excursions with his buddies. Harry was passionate about the garden he kept at his home. Whenever someone would visit, he was always so excited to give them a tour. The smile on his face could light up a room. He even grew figs in Salt Lake City, which is not an easy thing to do.

Harry loved to accompany his wife, Anna, on gambling trips. He never gambled, but enjoyed coming along for the ride and socializing. Harry was so loving--he even kept cookies in his pockets for Anna, who oftentimes didn’t stop gambling long enough to eat something.

Like all of his family, he had such a giving and generous soul, always helping others. You did not have to be related to Harry in order to be treated like family. When he retired from working in the hotel, he loved to cook for everyone. His Biram was incredible. He made many good friends over the years and was blessed in many ways. Harry Nicholos Mihos is remembered as a kind-hearted, incredible person. He was adored by everyone that knew him.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 6th, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 279 South 300 West in Salt Lake City, UT.

May his memory be eternal.
