James Richard Brohm, known to friends as "Jim” or “Biggie”, passed away on December 14, 2021, after battling numerous health issues at the age of 74 years.

He was born on Sept. 10, 1947, to Harold Woodruff and Verda May Richards Brohm.

A native of Salt Lake City, James graduated from Olympus High School in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967 and was quickly called to fight for liberty in Vietnam.

Upon returning home from Vietnam, he attended the University of Utah, while regularly wearing BYU blue. This is an important point he wouldn’t want left out. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in recreational studies from the U. This was indicative of his love for his Wasatch mountains.

He worked as a forest ranger for a short time before his career with the LDS Church Security Department. Upon early retirement from that position, he returned to school to receive his aviation mechanics license and worked for Delta Airlines as a mechanic for the last 10 years of his career.

James was very passionate about the military & aviation, especially the U.S. Air Force, and NASA, and passed that love and appreciation on to his two sons and grandkids. He also supported numerous organizations and museums whose mission was to help younger generations gain a love for space travel and aviation as well.

He served in the Utah Air National Guard from 1981 to 1990. Jim loved his time with “the Guard” and enjoyed his duties in radar control. He later volunteered with the Commemorative Air Force (CAF), based in Heber City, UT.

James was a great man who just by living life was an example of what it means to be a great father.

He is survived by his former wife Janet, sons Dustin (Jordan) & Travis, 4 grandchildren, Bailee, Burton, Jackson, and Kaia, and niece, Tammy (Kim) Quarnberg.

James is preceded in death by his parents, sister Margaret (Peggy) Brohm Walters, and niece, Lissa Newton.

A celebration of James’ incredible life will be held at 10 am, on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park, 17111 S 1700 W, Bluffdale, UT 84065, with a military honors graveside ceremony at 11am.

The family would like to offer their sincere gratitude to the VA hospital and staff who treated James with the utmost care and respect. And a special note of gratitude for Jim’s long time friend, Rob Meals, for his friendship and support.
