Raven TallHorse’ Elliss

Raven TallHorse’ Elliss was granted her angel wings on November 20, 2021.

She was born in East Los Angels, December 14, 1961. Raven graduated from Gary high school and studied at Pomona Community College in California. She was married to her best friend and husband John E. Elliss IV on September 17, 2001.

Raven was taken from us at the young age of 59. She spent her time connecting to her indigenous roots through the arts and building community wherever she went. She was a musician, artist, hunter, mechanic, taxidermist, master at bead work and loved the outdoors. She was a Docent at Fruitlands Museum in Harvard Massachusetts. Raven used her talents to clean and restore taxidermied animals at Ravalli County Museum and Historical Society in Hamilton, Montana. Raven loved volunteering and sharing her passion with others. Teaching bead and quillwork classes at the University of Montana with the American Indian Student Services Department was a very special time for her.

Raven is survived by her spouse John, son Kenji, daughter Kamiko and grandsons, Kenji, Robert and Ronald, Sisters Lola and Tiana and brother Ray and Uncle Tommy. Her memory and values live on through her 4 nieces and 2 nephews. She will be dearly missed by friends and extended family in upstate New York, Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington, and Montana.

A virtual memorial service will be held on July 30, 2022 at 5 pm.
