Roscoe Edward Clausse

Roscoe E. Clausse

Roscoe (Ross) Edward Clausse, 91 passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 19, 2017.

He was born on April 28, 1925, in Ogden, Utah to Leon and Marie Child Clausse. He joined the Navy when he was 17 years old and served on the USS New Mexico BB 40 stationed in the South Pacific. This battleship delivered more ammunition tonnage against the enemy than any other ship in WW II, and was the first U.S. ship to sail into Tokyo Bay before the signing of the Peace Treaty.

After he returned from war, he met and married Elaine Poulson on September 22, 1950. Together they raised three sons, Kirk (Mary), Ross (Dixie), Reed (Jennifer); enjoyed their eleven grandchildren, Dayna, Jesse, Kacee, Ryan, Kenzie, Krista, Karson, Katy, Will, Colt, and Sara; and 19 great grandchildren with one on the way.

Ross was a skilled auto mechanic and worked at a Lincoln-Mercury dealership for many years, then worked in the HVAC trade at Hill Air Force Base before retiring. He was one of the original members of the Weber County Search and Rescue (Jeep Patrol). He was also the first to open a Ski-Doo dealership in Northern Utah. He enjoyed all things outdoors: boating, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, ATVs, and motorcycles, along with camping and enjoying the family cabin.

He was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on September 20, 2013 at age 88. Ross loved his family which was his greatest accomplishment!

He is survived by his wife, Elaine (who he lovingly referred to as “H” for honey), his sons, and a sister Orlou (Blair) Lutz.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John Clausse, and sister, Marion Chase.

A viewing will be held Friday, January 27 from 6-8 PM at the 4th Ward LDS Chapel 4075 Orchard Ave. in South Ogden, with a short viewing Saturday morning from 9-9:45 and funeral at 10 AM also at the Chapel. Interment will be at Washington Heights Memorial Park 4500 Washington Blvd. Military honors will follow at the cemetery.

Thanks to Lissa from IHC Homecare and Hospice and special thanks to granddaughter, Kenzie Robinson who took Pop to his appointments and helped alongside Elaine to care for him.
