Sidney Bud Silcox

*Sidney Bud Silcox*

August 15, 1960 – August 7, 2021

Sidney Bud Silcox, our dear son, brother, uncle, and good friend passed away in his childhood home on August 7, 2021 at the age of 60.

Sid was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Dr. Bud LaVor Silcox and Maomi Glines Silcox. The second of six children, Sid took on great responsibility as the eldest son and brother at the age of 13, after his father passed in March 1974.

Sid’s defining attribute was his unwavering dedication to his mother and family. The first to show up to help fix a car, a window, or carry a box on moving day, Sid never failed to be ever present in his family’s life. He was always the first call when a brother or sister or friend needed help and he made each niece and nephew feel like they were his favorite. Sid quietly shared a smile, and a word of advice for how to fix anything that was broken.

Sid took special care to teach his three brothers how to fix bicycles, motorcycles, and later cars and trucks. He also helped his little sister buy her first truck. Sid served endlessly without ever expecting anything in return. A devoted son to his mother, he watched over, cared for and lived with his mother until her passing in April 2019.

Sid loved flannel shirts, old cars (especially Ford Mustang fast backs and flat head V8’s), building things with his brothers, gunsmithing, target shooting and reloading, four-wheeling, motorcycling, and leatherwork.

Sid attended Cyprus high school where he was a member of the wrestling team. During High School Sid also earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Sid graduated from high school and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints seminary program in May 1978. He graduated from Utah Technical College for Recreational Vehicles Mechanics in June 1979.

During high school, Sid worked for Hutchison’s grocery store, and then went to work for Interstate Automotive in Ohio and Kansas for a few years. Sid then returned to Utah where he worked as a glazier for Garrick Glass for over 30 years, until retiring in 2019.

Sid is survived by his sisters Tawnya (David) Lang and Teena (Chad) McBride and brothers Lyle (Carrie) Silcox, and Carl (Melanie) Silcox. He is also survived by 17 nieces and nephews, 25 great-nieces and nephews, aunts Arva Stewart, June Langton, and Anna Lee Silcox, and uncle Floyd Fleming.

Preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Maomi Silcox, and his brother, Darius LaVor Silcox. Also preceded in death by grandparents Joseph and Sophia Glines, and Rupert and Clara Silcox. Aunts: Winona Nilsson, Gloria Olsen, Farrel Buckner, Leona Silcox, Leola Smith, Zelda Fleming. Uncles: Joe Glines, Max Buckner, Nello Silcox, Kenneth Smith, and Richard Stewart.
