Sue Jane McQueen died peacefully in her home on June 15th, 2019 at the age of 72.
She is survived by her beloved husband, her children, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, her brothers and sister-in-law, as well as many of her cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, Texas in 1964. After her graduation she attended Texas Tech where she majored in Music, and then transferred to TCU where she also majored in music with an emphasis in voice. She met her future husband and eternal sweetheart, Stanley McQueen, while attending TCU. They were married in 1967. They welcomed two children into their home in 1968 and 1970. They joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints while Stan was stationed with the Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colorado and were members of the 6th ward. They moved to Castle Rock, Colorado, then to Stoneham, Massachusetts where they were members of the Lynnfield Ward. There she served as Relief Society President, Seminary teacher, Ward Music Chairman, Choir Director, Camp Cook, and sat on the Stake Young Women’s Board, among others. She then moved back to her beloved Colorado Springs where she served as Stake music director and as a counselor in the ward Relief Society. Her husband then moved her to Orem, Utah where they resided in the Orem Park 8th ward. She served as choir director and chorister. Her husband was called as the Branch President of the Orem Park Seville Branch where she served as pianist. She served faithfully by her husband’s side at the Seville for 11 years. She also had the privilege of serving in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple as Trainer, Shift Coordinator, and Organist. In her stake she served as Stake Music Director and Stake Choir Director. A visiting General Authority called her a “National Treasure” after the choir she was directing sang at Stake Conference. She had an amazing voice and enjoyed singing not only in Ward Choirs, but also with several civic choirs in the areas that she lived. She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed being the source of her friend’s smiles. She was a woman of faith. She loved to serve the Lord and those around her. She taught her children to do the same. She enjoyed decorating her home and making it a place of beauty where you could feel the Spirit. A marvelous cook, she kept her family and friends filled with food that she made with love. She was adored by her grandchildren and they all have a special place in their hearts for their “Granny”. She is now serving the Lord on the other side of the veil, and we look forward to the day when we are reunited with her.
Her funeral is scheduled for June 24th at the Orem Park 8th Ward Chapel located on 114 South 400 West, Orem. A viewing will be held from 9:30 - 10:45 AM, followed by the funeral from 11:00-12:00 AM. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you donate to the Alzheimer’s Association. The family would like to thank Valeo Hospice for their loving care and attention to not only Sue Jane, but to her family as well.
