Susan Johnson Brakey
Susan Johnson Brakey was born December 9, 1959 and left us on April 14, 2020 after a sudden and unexpected illness. She was born to Lois Lucille and John Norman Johnson. She spent the first several days of her life without a name, as her father had planned for a boy that he was to name Sue. He finally relented and Susan she became. She would joke that she was her father’s boy named Sue. She grew up in Taylorville and graduated from Cottonwood High School. She was a gifted musician playing both the piano and clarinet. She was born to play the piano with an ear that could translate the song to her long piano-perfect fingers. She was also a fantastic artist and mastered painting with a single hair brush. If you are lucky enough to own something painted by her cherish it. Sue had three children that she was very proud of. She also loved her grandchildren very much, but disliked being called Granny equally as much. Sue had a true gift for being a friend. She LOVED to talk, and the more friends you have the more people you have to talk to. She made sure she had lots of friends. Thank you to Suzie and Tammy for being the best of her friends. Susan was preceded in death by her mother Lois Lucille Johnson and father John Norman Johnson. She is survived by her husband Jimmy Brakey, children: Camille Grimshaw (Bryan), Ryan Johnson, and Brooklyn Brakey, grandchildren: Erin, Seth, Aven, and John, brothers: Norman Johnson, and Terry Johnson (Kelly), and furry grandchildren Thor and Mochi. Susan will be laid to rest in a private gathering at Taylorsville cemetery on Saturday April 18, 2020.
