Elmer Farrell Downs Sr. passed away Monday, February 6th. Elmer was born in Idaho Falls to

Elmer Ned Downs and Iris Stevenson. He had six sisters and two brothers. Elmer was in the

United States Army in the 60’s and enjoyed telling tales of riding around in the tanks he fixed.

Once discharged, Elmer spent many years in New York as a mechanic before moving back to

Utah to start his family with Fran Downs. They had six children; Angela (Aidan), Elmer Jr.,

Elizabeth (Jeremy), Elyse (Cortney), Ericka and Erin, and 4 grandchildren Lily, Arya, Seth, and

Elia.

Elmer and his family, otherwise known as ‘The Downs Family’ were involved in volunteer work

at St. Francis Xavier for many years. From mowing the lawn to painting walls, cleaning

classrooms, running Thursday night bingo there was almost always a Downs Family member to

be found in the Church and School. We all have so many wonderful memories from the time

spent together at St. Francis Xavier. Elmer was a member of the Knights of Columbus for as long

as all of us can remember and was Head Knight for many years. He met many wonderful friends

through his membership.

After almost twenty years of working for Coca-Cola Elmer went to work at Skaggs Catholic

Center as the Property Manager. He made many lifelong friends and enjoyed watching the new

Catholic Center grow and thrive.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 17th at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 4501

West 5215 South Kearns, Utah 84118. Friends and family may gather at the church beginning at

1:00 pm. There will be a luncheon following the mass held by the Knights of Columbus. In lieu of

flowers please consider donating to St. Francis Xavier Church and School. Elmer’s children are

all so grateful for everything St. Francis Xavier provided and continues to provide to the Catholic

Community here in Utah.
