Emmanuel J Buissereth 1944 – 2022
Emmanuel Jean Joseph Buissereth was born on the 25 th of December 1944, in Fonds-des-Blancs, Haiti to Julna Bonaney and Agenor Etienne Buissereth.
Emmanuel grew up in Fonds-des-Blancs as a child until he was 14 years old. He later relocated to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, with his father, after a disagreement ensued between his parents. While living in Port-au-Prince, he met his sweetheart Lomaine Duvelsaint, who later became his wife, and together enjoyed life for nearly 30 years.
Growing up in a split home, Emmanuel had to grow up fast as a child, values that he later instituted in his children as a father. When it came to raising his children, he was first and foremost a protector and a disciplinarian. While being loving and caring, he ensured that they learned the great lessons of life. He taught them the value of family and hard work. He also raised them to be diligent and to pursue excellence in everything they did. He was keen to remind them that making excuses would lead them nowhere.
A brilliant mind, Emmanuel was known for being innovative, a natural leader, and an advisor. His first attempt at making a life for himself was to be a shoemaker which he did for a while. Soon after starting a family, he realized that he needed a career change to meet the ever-increasing family needs. He became a home builder and built several houses in his neighborhood before venturing into mechanics and went on to be the best mechanic that ever lived in the city of Port-au-Prince. In fact, he was very well-known because of it. Emmanuel, “the man who could fix anything”, was his nickname and he gave everything his best!
Emmanuel looked at life as a puzzle. He always held the belief that if there is a problem, there is also a solution to it, otherwise, there wouldn’t be a problem.
When not busy fixing a car, he enjoyed teaching his kids everything he knew about being a mechanic with no distinction of gender. His first three children being girls were his three little right hands for as long as they wanted to learn and when he needed to step out to do something else, he entrusted them with the task. Every time he finished a project on a new truck, he always made sure his entire family was the first to take a road trip on it. He enjoyed playing the keyboard without a note and playing or listening to the flute.
His favorite day of the year was December 25 th , not only because it is Christmas, but because it was also his birthday. He would share the story about his mom failing to attend the midnight mass because she was in labor with him. Hence, to his parents came a child whom they named Emmanuel, and his family always had a good time celebrating that day with him.
Emmanuel was active in his local community. His neighbors looked up to him as a leader and someone to take advice from. They would seek his advice on a wide range of real-life challenges ranging from family matters, personal career development and growth, and many more, and would always leave feeling assisted.
He also mentored young men with his knowledge of mechanics, always welcoming them to his home and teaching them everything they needed to know, and some went on to become great men. He loved being busy and his projects never ended.
His love for vehicles surpassed anything in this world. He always had more vehicles than one should be allowed on the street, but he wouldn’t be the same without having them. He rejoiced in seeing other people happy and always found a way to make the impossible possible either for his family, a friend, or a stranger.
