Georgia Howard Lang, 90, passed away on May 6, 2020 at her home. She was born on June 8, 1929 to George Howard and Alodia Frances Hardy in Latuda, (Carbon County) Utah. She was raised in Helper, Utah where her father was a superintendant at the mine in Carbon County. When her father became deathly ill, she learned to say the alphabet backwards, so she would be quiet when her father became sick. After her father’s death from spinal meningitis, her mother moved the family to Illinois. From the age of 7 she was raised in a barracks at the Mooseheart Lodge in Illinois, where he mother worked as a housekeeper. She was quite the gymnast in high school and was always on the top of the tower. Georgia completed her graduation requirements at Mooseheart after the 11 th grade, but waited one year to graduate with her class, as they were her extended family. She worked as a secretary during what should have been her twelfth grade by typing (120 wpm), taking shorthand, and performing calculus. After graduation, she received a scholarship to LDS Business College. Georgia met her eternal companion Raymond Lang on a drive to Hane’s Lake, then a dance at the Gold and Green Ball at the Utah State Capitol sealed their devotion for each other. Ray came to see Georgia every day after that. They were married on June 8, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple and lived happily for over 71 years together. They would have celebrated their 72 nd anniversary next month. Ray and Georgia (nicknamed Jo) bought their first home in Granger, Utah. While in Granger, they were blessed with three children, JoAnne, David Jay and Kathleen. Georgia was home alone with JoAnne while Ray served on the aircraft carrier Antitum, during the Korean War. She spent many hours with the children on her lap reading to them. The family then moved to Lancaster, California, for 12 years, where Ray worked at various jobs and at Edwards Air Force base. Georgia kept the wood floors in their home so polished and shiny that the kids could slide around in their socks! The family really enjoyed their trips to Disneyland and Calico Ghost Town during their stay in California. The Lang family finally settled in Hunter (West Valley City), Utah, in 1967, where they made many friends and created a loving home for over 50 years. Georgia was a talented executive secretary and over her lifetime she worked at Walker Bank, Hardy Salt Plant, and Western Office Systems. She was an excellent cook, and made the best potato salad in the world. Georgia was an organized homemaker, a talented seamstress, who also loved to camp and do hand embroidery and crochet. She taught her grandchildren to crochet, knit and play card games. But most of all she loved to spoil her grandchildren. One Christmas she tied a quilt for all of them, and many others. In her later years she would spend hours reading, playing solitaire on the computer and solving puzzles. Georgia was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings as a Primary teacher, Chorister, Primary President, Relief Society Counselor, Young Women President, Relief Society Teacher and Visiting Teacher. But her most favorite callings were to teach Gospel Doctrine, and to serve with Ray at Young Women’s Girls camp. Through quiet acts of service, Georgia has displayed an example of love and devotion to family, patience in suffering, and the ability to share her testimony of Jesus Christ, which she leaves as her legacy. She is survived by her husband Raymond J. Lang, son David (Tawnya), daughter Kathleen McGee, 12 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren. Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Wallace and Lynn E. Howard, daughter JoAnne Brown, grandson Christopher Jensen, brother-in-law Allen Lang, and sisters-in-law Donna Salt, Inge Lang, and Irene Lang . A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral following at 11:00 a.m. at Kramer Family Funeral Home.
