On Thursday, June 1st, 2017 at 11:04 a.m., Henry Anthony (Tony) Cox peacefully passed away at home surrounded by family. He was born May 3rd, 1938 to Catherine May Chamberlain and Henry Sido Ambra, Sr. in San Francisco, California. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a B.S. in Physical Education. Tony served in the U.S. Army as a missile operator during the Berlin Missile Crisis. He married Josephine Marie Krause in 1964, with whom he shared two children and 25 years. Tony was truly a self-made man, as he not only taught mathematics in Germany, but also founded and presided over the Ambra Oil & Gas Company.
Tony’s love of knowledge was unprecedented; he was constantly learning new things and questioning that which he already knew. Tony loved teasing, joking, and talking with the many people who crossed his path and the knowledge he acquired was passed on to all those he met. He spent most of his time with his family or watching baseball, and hanging around all the local golf courses, Mick Riley in particular. While Tony was a friend to all animals, dogs always held a special place in his heart and he surrounded himself with them. He loved all genres of music, particularly rock n’ roll, and passed that love down to his children. More than anything though, Tony was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. Tony is survived by his sister, Dolores McDonald; son, Troy Cox; daughter, Ambra Cox Grow (Michael); nine grandchildren; and last but not least, his 20 year friend and companion, his dog, Pipi.
A remembrance gathering for all family and friends will be held on Sunday, June 11th, 4-7pm at our family home 651 East 5640 South Murray, Utah. All who knew him and would like to share in the celebration of his life are welcome. We would love you to bring a fond memory of our father, as we will be putting together a book to remember him by. We respectfully request that this be an adult-only event. We truly appreciate your understanding.
