Lloyd Jasper Smith, Jr.

Lloyd Jasper Smith, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle departed this life peacefully on Sunday, October 24 th in Bountiful, UT. He fought to the very end until he was released from his mortal coil. Though he battled serious health issues the last several years of his life, he never lost his megawatt smile and friendly way with all those he encountered.

Born of goodly parents on March 15, 1943 in Hannibal, MO, Lloyd spent the greater part of his youth in Thermopolis, WY. It was in Wyoming that he developed a love of the outdoors and sportsmanship. He was a hunter, a fisherman, a trapper, a horseman and cattle driver.

He loved bowling and golf. He traveled to compete in tournaments for years. At one such golf tournament, he won the “Closest to the Hole” contest, which granted him the use of a brand-new Chevy Monte Carlo for a year.

He also loved all things motor. Fixing it. Driving it. Racing it. Jumping it. Lloyd loved it. In 1973, his love of motorcycles lead him to the Wyoming State Championship in Motorcross. An expert mechanic, Lloyd fixed EVERYONE’S cars until computerized vehicles became the norm. His love of driving took him into a long-haul trucking career, diving across the country for several years. Once he said, “It’s kinda neat being in different places” and if you mentioned a city in conversation, he would reply, “I been there.” His passions made him a champion, served those he loved, earned him a living, and ushered him all over the United States.

Among all of Lloyd’s loves and accomplishments, his family was his greatest. Though he was never one to gush, he was quick to talk about the accomplishments of his family, swelling with pride as he recounted stories of their successes. He was the dad that didn’t tell YOU that he was proud, but instead would carry that story you wrote for English in his wallet and read it to anyone that would listen. We never doubted he loved us. He was ALWAYS there when needed, especially in babysitting his grandkids.

Lloyd loved eating a delicious family meal and catching whatever golf tournament, football, or basketball game was on the TV or playing a few cards at the kitchen table after dinner. Grandpa especially loved watching Tiger, The Broncos and The Jazz.

Lloyd was a humble man of God that exemplified service to others. He never met a stranger and helped those in need whenever he could. His willingness to SERVE his fellow beings will be a long-standing lesson to all those who knew him. He taught us well on that account.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Jasper Smith Sr and Thelma Smith; his younger brother, John David Smith; and his daughter, Heather Renee Smith. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Lillie Marie Humphrey Smith; children Michelle (Travis), Michael, Chris (Alicia), and Marna; 14 beloved grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Rozine and Marty; and several special nieces and nephews.
