December 6, 1930 – April 15, 2019

Maomi Glines Silcox our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend passed away at the age of 88.

She was born in Tridell, Utah to Joseph Glines and Sophia Swarts Glines. The third of five children (one boy and four girls), Maomi had many fond memories of a childhood full of wide-open spaces, gathering pollywogs, catching lizards, and vying for the coveted spot on the four sisters’ favorite rock.

She married Dr. Bud LaVor Silcox on June 1, 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple. Ever the supportive wife, she spent many hours typing and editing Bud’s Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral Theses. After 18 years of happy marriage, her beloved husband, Bud, passed away on March 23, 1974 after a courageous two-year battle with liver cancer. Maomi faced the daunting task of providing for and raising their six children on her own, with faith in the knowledge that families are forever.

After her children were grown, in July 1996, Maomi retired from TRW Credit Information and was able to enjoy more time with her family, receiving frequent calls from her children asking for “Silcox Babysitting Services.” She also had the freedom to rediscover her hobbies of making porcelain dolls, writing poetry, reading and family history.

As a diligent mother and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, her love of others and understanding of the human condition grew throughout her life. She served in various capacities in her ward (Education Counselor, Special Interest, Primary teacher, Stake Relief Society Counselor) and served her family, friends and neighbors. Her “love language” was food. There was always extra homemade pizza for anyone stopping by. A neighborhood friend once wrote of her, “Maomi’s faith has never wavered, she has remained active and supportive throughout all her trials, she may not have realized it, but she has been a marvelous role model for many of us in the neighborhood who grew up with her children.”

Maomi shared her love of the gospel even in the last weeks of her life when she said to her youngest grandchild on his birthday, “Happy Birthday. Stick to the Iron Rod! Love you so much.”

Maomi loved deeply and has been loved well in return.

She is survived by her sisters Gloria (Charles) Olsen and June (Earl) Langton, daughter Tawnya (David) Lang, son Sidney Silcox, son Lyle (Carrie) Silcox, son Carl (Melanie) Silcox, daughter Teena (Chad) McBride, her 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Brother and Sisters-in-law, Arva Stewart, Lee Silcox, and Floyd Fleming.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bud, parents Joseph and Sophia Swarts Glines, brother Joe Glines, sister Winona Nilsson and son Darius LaVor Silcox. Also preceded in death by parents-in-law, Rupert Silcox and Clara Steadman Silcox, brothers and sisters-in-law, Leona Silcox, Max and Farrel Buckner, Nello Silcox, Kenneth and Leola Smith, Richard Stewart, and Zelda Fleming.

There will be a Viewing held on Friday, April 19, 2019

at the Copper Hills 3rd Ward House (6755 West 3800 South, West Valley City, Utah 84128) from 9:30am to 10:45am with a Funeral to follow from 11:00am to 12:00pm.

The Graveside Service will be held at the West Jordan City Cemetery (7800 South 1300 West, West Jordan, Utah 84088) immediately following the funeral service.
