Mark Jude Gilman

Mark Jude Gilman passed away quickly on August 21, 2020. He came into this world nearly two months early on a cold snowy Winter day in January  of 1960. He departed far too soon on a warm summer evening at the age of 60. 

Born in Pennsylvania on January 7, 1960,  Mark moved to Connecticut as a young child. While growing up in the North East, he developed his love of ice skating. Mark graduated from Kaynor Technical High School in 1978. Shortly thereafter, he began his traveling adventures with a cross country move to Northern California. 

Prior to enlisting in the United States Army,he landed on the shores of Oahu where, he formed many fond memories living in Honolulu, Hawaii. During his time in the military he continued to travel extensively. He especially, enjoyed the time he spent living in both Germany and Turkey.
After his discharge from the Army he moved to Taipei, Taiwan where he met and married his beloved wife Wendy in 1995. Together they enjoyed running in the Hash House Harriers running club and raising their two young girls. 

By his own account Mark had a happy and amazing life. He was an outdoor enthusiast.  He enjoyed distance running, swimming, skiing, ice skating, scooter rides, motorcycle touring and flying small airplanes. Mark enjoyed sharing his hobbies wIth his two daughters which he loved deeply. 

In addition to his wife Wendy and daughters Hanna and Isabella Mark is survived by his mother, Peggy Varner-Hall, his siblings Pat Gilman,  Penny Gilman and Riley Gilman along with several nieces, nephews and in-laws . He was preceded in death by his father, James Gilman. 


At this time the immediate family will hold a small private gathering. When travel to Hawaii resumes Mark’s extended family will gather on Maui for a celebration of his life.
