Randall Lynn Swensen

Randall Lynn Swensen (73) hit his last home run and slid into home base on August 20, 2022 in Salt Lake City, UT. He showed his family what it means to love unconditionally and endure to the very end.

Born January 20, 1949 in Murray, Utah to Oswald Lewis and Louise (Bessan) Swensen, Dad grew up the youngest of six children. He had fond memories of growing up in Taylorsville, UT and playing sports of all kinds -especially baseball. He graduated from Granger High School in 1967 and helped care for his mother after his father’s sudden passing in 1968. Dad attended the University of Utah where he developed a deep love for poetry and literature. He married Rebecca Marie Gaddis in the Salt Lake Temple in January 1971 (divorced 2007).

Dad had nine children, and he was always proud of raising an entire “baseball team”. No matter how many predicaments we were able to create growing up, Dad always found a way to help us navigate-each obstacle when we needed help. He genuinely loved each of his children and found immense joy in the grandchildren and great grandchildren that eventually joined the team. He delighted in all his posterity and found peace in the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Dad is survived by his children Seth (Christine) Carwyn, Jennifer (Roger) Palmer, Nathan (Tyra) Swensen, Carmen McMackin (Jason Bailey), son-in-law Bobby McMackin, Morgan (Kira) Swensen, Justin (Katie) Swensen, Jeremy (Kimberly) Swensen, Natalie (Adam) Cook, Meghan (Brigham) Worsencroft, 37 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and his sister Afton (Doyle) Hansen. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Lois, Lou Deene, Colleen and Lewis.

Condolences can be left through Kramer Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local youth sports team or literature group. Interment will be in the Murray City Cemetery after a private, graveside service.
