Ray Lonnie Campos III

Ray Lonnie Campos III (October 9, 1972—July 4, 2022) - A father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend left us too soon on July 4, 2022. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 9, 1972 to Terry Ray Campos II & Linda Rae Campos.

Lonnie graduated from Kearns High School in 1991 and continued his education working towards his journeyman electrician license, completing an additional four years of post high school education.

Lonnie was a beautiful baby boy. He was one of the oldest grandkids and his big brown eyes, eyelashes, and Campos cheeks caught the attention of many. From the time he was young to the time he was an adult his smile could brighten any room. As a kid he was a fierce baseball player and enjoyed camping and fishing with his family and friends. Lonnie grew up going out to races at Bonneville. Dirt track, sprint cars, and races at Manzanita were his favorite. Those that knew Lonnie remember he always smelled good because he had a collection of colognes for all occasions. If you were craving a jolly rancher or hard piece of candy, he always had something in his pocket 😌.

He had a special relationship with his sister Jackie, which included their Nascar race watch parties they enjoyed together for many years. Lonnie also loved football and would be seen often sporting his beloved team’s jersey, the Chicago Bears.

Lonnie married Penny Marie Weatherly on June 29, 2001 and was an immediate father, raising Kirstie, who he raised as his own. Soon after they married, their family expanded, giving birth to their son Ray Cody Campos IV, often called “Ray-Ray” by his parents and family and known to his friends as Cody. Lonnie loved taking his kids camping and fishing, these were special moments that were passed on by atleast three generations. Not long after, Lonnie and Penny welcomed his beautiful baby girl Kenadie. Lonnie passed on his love for baseball to his daughter Kenadie playing catch with her and teaching her the skills she needed to help her with her own love for softball. Kenadie loved watching her dad work on cars and teaching her about them. Lonnie experienced this with his dad as well, working on cars together. Lonnie was ecstatic when his daughter Kirstie gave birth to Molly Sue, his only granddaughter that he loved so much, he was known to her as Papa. In recent years, Lonnie had dreams of going back to Alaska and talked about it often with his daughter Kenadie. Although that dream didn’t happen, he encouraged his daughters to be safe, and reminded them often to be strong independent women and to make their dreams come true, to live life the way they wanted.

Lonnie is survived by his mother, Linda Rae Campos; sister, Jackie Campos; wife, Penny Marie Weatherly; daughters, Kirstie Lee Padilla and Kenadie “Baby B,’ Michial Campos; granddaughter, Molly Sue; and his Aunt Cindy whom he had a special bond with; plus many extended family members and friends who loved him so much.

Lonnie is preceded in death by his son, Ray Cody Campos IV “Ray-Ray”; his dad Terry Ray Campos II; his grandparents, Ray Valdez Campos, Gloria Campos, and Ron Webb. We know that Lonnie was greeted by his son and dad and that they’ve “gone fishin” and will be forever guardian angels to their loved ones left behind.

Lonnie you will always be in our hearts and never be forgotten.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at St. Mark’s Hospital who worked hard to save Lonnie’s life. The family is forever grateful.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled on July 16th, Saturday from 5-8pm at 4503 S Charles Dr., West Valley, Utah.
