Roger Lee Vickers

Roger Lee Vickers was born on August 29, 1947 and passed away from pancreatic cancer on November 12, 2019 at the age of 72. Roger was survived by his son Benjamin Nathan Vickers and sister Christina Joe Vickers Rogers. Roger was born in Houston Texas to Joseph and Viola Pyle Vickers. He lived throughout the United States and Japan in his childhood as his father was enlisted in the US Navy. In Rogers early years he grew to love the outdoors and Southwest and enjoyed camping, rock collecting and exploring ghost towns with his father. It was during his teenage years that his family settled in San Diego and also when his father passed away. Roger completed high school there while enjoying the "beach life" of surfing. He enjoyed driving his mother and sister up the mountains to the town of Julian. After having the honor of walking both his mother and sister down the aisle in a double wedding of June, 1967, he moved on to the beginning of his unprecedented, long career of 52 years with Delta Airlines where he received many awards, honors and recognitions. Roger had many friends and always had the respect of others. Roger displayed a kind demeanor at all times and exhibited endless acts of kindness throughout his life.

Roger married Joy Dewhirst and had a son, Benjamin Nathan Vickers. Roger and Joy later divorced. Roger was a devoted father and enjoyed traveling with his son. Roger Worked for Delta in San Francisco, San Diego and Chattanooga Tennessee then he eventually moved to Salt Lake City Utah where he finished his career. It was in Utah where he was able to most enjoy his love of the American Southwest and Native American history. Roger love driving through Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Nevada stopping at many national parks old forts and ghost towns and other historic locations.


A Celebration of Roger's life will be held Sunday the 24th of November at the RADISSON SLC AIRPORT HOTEL
