Sandra Young
My beloved sister, Sandra, passed away peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, August 19th. Sandra Jean Young (Benson), the second of four daughters, was born in Los Angeles on March 15, 1944 to parents Frank and Lina Goossen. She lived with her close-knit family in southern California until she moved to Utah in the early 70's. A few years later, Sandy met the love of her life, Michael Benson, whom she married. They lived happily together and even worked side-by-side in his gardening business until his death in September, 2010.
When Sandra was growing up, she loved going to Red Lodge, Montana every summer to visit our grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. That love for Red Lodge and visiting family continued, and she and Michael would go there every chance they got.
Sandra was always a very caring person and wanted others to be happy, too. She had many hobbies which included gardening and knitting. The tomatoes and other vegetables Sandra planted each year were always shared with neighbors and friends. She made slippers for the whole family like our grandmother used to do. And Sandy made mittens for children and beanies for cancer patients and donated them to schools and hospitals in the area.
Sandra remained close to her family and friends. Her best friend, Diane, is such a wonderful person. She helped and supported Sandy in so many ways.
Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Michael, her parents and two of her sisters, Janet and Carole. She is survived by her sister, Beverly, three brothers-in-law, as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins whom she cared for dearly.
Sandy will be missed and never forgotten. She will be forever in our hearts.
