Shirley Ann Opp
Shirley Ann Opp, beloved wife, parent, Nanna and friend, left this life suddenly on 5 August 2022. Shirley was born in Philadelphia, PA on 25 July 1965 and raised in a loving home by JoAnne and Harry Becker along with their three children Harry Jr, Darlene and Donald.
Later in life she met her life-long companion and best friend, James Kent Opp. They built a life together exploring exotic new places, meeting new people that became life-long friends and enjoying the outdoors. They later planted their feet in Manila, UT where she continued doing what she did best—making an impact in the community. She loved serving at the Senior Center where that community became close friends. They were her people. She had a knack for making new friends wherever she went, whether they liked it, or not.
Shirley had a love for life and everything in it. The animals and plants knew her by name and spoke her language.
Her green thumb made an oasis wherever she lived, for family and friends to enjoy and loved sharing with everyone. “Mi casa; su casa” was her mantra.
Shirley had an imagination that made her a magnet to little people. When the grandchildren were around, she created magic. They grew up believing in fairies and pixie dust, Peter Pan and Neverland because of her influence. She taught them that if ever they wanted to go somewhere magical, all they needed to do was click their heels three times.
This world lost an amazing person whose absence will leave a big hole in our lives. We are comforted knowing she is reunited with loving and open arms by those friends and family who have passed before her.
She leaves behind her husband, James Kent Opp, daughter Stephanie Groll, son-in-law Trent Groll, granddaughters Marissa and Desiree Massaro, grandson, Riley Memmott and a large following of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Washington Heights Church located at 1770 East 6200 South Ogden, UT 84405 on August 20 th at 10am, followed by a light luncheon.
Celebration of life will be held, on September 3 rd , for her friends in Manila.
