Andrew Dale Harper
Our loving father, Andrew Dale Harper, age 67 of Salt Lake City, left us January 26, 2023 from complications of COPD. He leaves behind his sons Arron Harper of Layton, and Austin Harper of Salt Lake City; and his sisters Sharon Lee Shaw of Saratoga Springs, and Linda Thornburg of Provo. Andy was proceeded in death by his loving wife Becky Hansen Harper and his brother Robert Harper.
Andy was born December 16, 1955 in Gallup, New Mexico. He spent his childhood between Gallup and West Bountiful, Utah. He married his high school sweetheart Arleen Eggettt and they made Salt Lake City their home. After raising their two boys, they parted amicably and Andy later married his second wife, whose first husband had passed away, Becky Hansen. Becky had two sons Kevin Hansen and Richard Hansen. Andy soon became “Grandpa” to Becky’s grandchildren and had a very special bond with his granddaughter Danni Lynn, whom he loved to take to the park.
Andy worked very hard his whole life to provide for his family, for which his sons will be forever grateful.
A lifetime gardener, baker, candy maker and cook, Andy was known by many for his generous gifts of home grown produce, cinnamon rolls, holiday candies, jerky, and other assorted goodies. Andy passed his green thumb and chef’s hat to his sons, for which their friends and family are very appreciative.
The outdoors were where Andy truly felt alive. He loved traveling and exploring, camping and fishing, hiking and caving, boating and water skiing. Everyone who has ever camped with him knows how much he enjoyed telling stories and jokes around a campfire.
While often working 60 hours a week, Andy still found time to take disadvantaged city kids boating, camping, shooting, and fishing though Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.
It is hard to try and distill the life of such and wonderful and caring man into a few short paragraphs.
An outdoor celebration of life will be held in June. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Andy’s name to the American Lung Association, COPD Foundation, or Wounded Warriors.
