Dalwoy Krishnamurthy Natarajan, known to friends and family as “DK” or “Raju”, went to the Lord on December 5, 2018 at the age of 70.
Born October 10, 1948 in a very traditional family in Chidambaram, India. He was the youngest, having 9 siblings. He is survived by two brothers, M.K. Srinivasan and D.K. Sethu Madhavan who live in Mumbai, and two sisters, Janaki and Pattu, or Padma, who live in Chennai. He also has two daughters, Mrinalini Natarajan who lives in Singapore (spouse Guru) and Ramya Natarajan in India.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Col. M. S. Krishnamurthy and his Mother, S. Kamalambal, two brothers, D.K. Sesha Giri and D.K. Raghavan, and three sisters, Parvathi or Pappa, Sakkubai and one baby sister.
Dalwoy grew up listening to adventures and war stories of his father, who was also his hero. Like his father, Dalwoy had a desire to learn as many languages as possible. He was fluent in several languages of India including, Sanskrit. He spoke fluent French and Greek which he picked up during his brief visit to Greece. Growing up he had an interest in a variety of subjects including Astronomy and Geology.
Educated at Madras University he had a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. He found through helping a close friends’ family in their business that he had a natural flair for selling and marketing. This led to a 15-year career working for India’s No 1 paint company. He is fondly referred to as the “Asian Paints Natarajan” by those who worked with him.
In 1986 he took a deliberate career move into IT. He developed technical expertise as programmer and system analyst working in mainframes and midrange computers. Later he moved on to project management and served as General Manager in an IT organization. He also had a career as a part time tutor for high school students in English, History and Geography. He briefly served as a part time college instructor for information technology for MBA students in India. In 2001 he moved to the U.S.A., accepting a challenging job as a Global Technical Recruiter for a company based out of TX. He retired in 2016. In the past few years he worked part-time as a mystery shopper and for H&R Block as a Tax associate.
While in Houston, he met his soul mate, Laurie Woodland, in 2002. They met while taking country western and ballroom dance lessons. He loved to dance, ballroom, hustle and country western styles. He loved music of different kinds, covering a wide range of genre and styles. In 2010 he moved to Utah, to join Laurie, who had moved a year earlier. He then completed a course in Western Music from Trinity college of Music in London. He got his citizenship to the U.S. A in 2015.
He was known as a very spiritual person and a dear friend to many people. He could converse on numerous topics and was “an encyclopedia” of knowledge. He was full of laughter and brought joy to others. He shared funny stories, jokes and one liners. He was known as being a very kind and generous person. He loved to sing spiritual songs at the temple and with friends and at other gatherings.
A celebration of life reception for friends and family will be held on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at the India Cultural Center (ICC) of Utah in South Jordan from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in classroom 2A and 2B.
