David Michael Een 1944-2020

Dave passed away unexpectedly from natural causes at his home in Bountiful, Utah on May 24th, 2020. 

He was born on January 8th, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Dave was raised by his mother, Lola Redd, a hard working single mother of 4. During his early years, he developed a fun loving nature which defined him the rest of his life. When Dave was 9 years old, his mother was blessed to marry Perry Een, who adopted him and his siblings. To this union 3 additional siblings were born.  Perry ran a trucking company that hauled much of the dirt to build the new I-15 interstate and the excavation from under the Salt Lake Tabernacle. Dave loved laying on the lawn and staring at the statue of the Christus while waiting for his dump truck to be loaded. Dave learned body work and mechanic work while working for his new dad. He drove dump trucks and loaders and grew up in the trucking industry. Dave graduated from Bountiful High School in 1962. Dave served in the Armed Forces and became a top marksman sharpshooter. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Eastern States mission. Due to his friendly personality he had much success as a missionary. He attended BYU, UofU, and graduated from Utah State with degrees in mathematics and science. He was offered a job teaching school in Hawaii and while there, he met his “Sweetie” Sandy.  After a 2 ½ year courtship in Utah, they were married August 12, 1972 in the Laie, Hawaii Temple. They chose to raise their family in Utah, where he taught math and science at Viewmont High School and Centerville Junior High. While teaching, Dave was fixing cars in his garage and decided to open a body shop and go into fixing cars full time. He opened Dave Co. Body & Paint in 1978 and eventually Dave Co. Auto Sales where he passed on his auto body and paint skills to his sons. He loved getting people great deals and remained in the car industry until the day he died. He was an avid skier, snowmobiler, boater, loved 4 wheeling and camping with his kids at the sand dunes. He also loved scuba diving and became a scuba instructor. Dave loved to travel, but his passion and favorite pastime was golfing. He played several times a week and never lost his love for the game. Dave had a great love for others, often feeding and housing those in need. His greatest love was for his wife and family. They were his greatest joy. He loved his children and grandchildren and worked hard every day to provide them with wonderful adventures and memories. He never missed their games and, on several occasions, got a red card (ejected) for “disagreeing” with the refs. He held many church callings including scouting where he influenced many young men. His favorite calling was serving in the Bountiful Temple as an ordinance worker with Sandy. Dave served for over a decade and recruited many to serve with him. He was well liked there and was known for having a mint to share with everyone. Dave loved reading the Book of Mormon and had a great love for his Savior Jesus Christ. He will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his wife Sandy and seven children: Matt (Emily), Justin, Darren (Whitney), Maile Hoopes (Miah), Jonell Wenzel (Gavin), Kimberly Boyer (Danny), and Jeremy (Kimberly). 23 Grandchildren. Siblings Lamont, Kay Rasmussen (Don), Trish Schiffman, Kim (Miriam), & Kristie Heyborne (Steve). Preceded in death by his parents Perry and Lola, his sister Susan, brother in law Jay, and son in law Christian Lelepali.  A viewing will be held for all family and friends on Friday May 29th from 6-8pm at the Moss Hill Ward Building 455 South 1200 East, Bountiful, Utah 84010.
