Gary Dean Palmer

Gary Dean Palmer was born January 25th 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  He passed away peacefully on January 15th 2021 following a long debilitating illness.  Gary was the youngest of six children born to Lavell and Ida May Palmer.  Gary was born in Salt Lake but grew up in Blanding, Utah.  Attending school at San Juan High where he graduated in 1965.  In school, he played football and during his senior year was selected to the first team, all-state football as a center lineman. 

After graduation, Gary was then called and served a successful mission in Florida for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  Upon his return, he met and then married his first wife Karen.  Together they had one daughter.  They later divorced and he then married Janene who had two children that Gary adopted as his own and they then had another son together.  

Gary was preceded in death by his 4th wife Liane , his oldest daughter Nicole, and an older brother Allen. He is survived by his sons, John and Dan Palmer and a daughter Tina Steeger, also by his siblings: Jay, Carolyn, Clyde and Wayne.  Gary’s desire was to have his remains cremated and have his ashes be buried in Blanding, the home of his youth.  That wish will be carried out in the spring. 

Gary served the city of South Salt Lake as a police officer for 21 years, retiring and then working for Conway trucking until his retirement.
