James Vernon Hymer

James Vernon Hymer, of Tooele UT, age 63, passed away on February 22, 2023. Jim was born in Denver, CO on March 26, 1959 to Vernon Hymer and Veronica Davis Hymer. Jim was the oldest of his 5 siblings. He moved to Tooele in May of 1966 where he lived out his days.

He started working for the Tooele Army Depot in September 1980, and worked in the maintenance department for 28 years 8 Months, until he retired in May 2009. He also started Hymer's Overhead Garage Doors in 1994, and worked with his sons doing garage door maintenance and repair. He attended Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Phoenix Arizona graduating October 2010 specializing in Harley-Davidson Late models. Jim was incredibly handy, and could fix just about anything.

Jim and his former spouse, Deonn Walters Crossley, have 4 children. Jim loved the outdoors, especially riding his motorcycles, which he called his “girlfriends,” Annie and Ginger. His favorite pastime was taking his “girlfiends” out for a burger and a beer. Some of his favorite places were Cottonbottom, Shooting Star, Defa’s Saloon, and any small Mom and Pop place he could find along his route.

Jim loved his children and grandchildren, and was proud of all of their accomplishments. He was a man of few words, but loved spending endless hours on the road, riding by himself or riding with his many friends and family.

Jim was predeceased by his father, Vernon Hymer. He is survived by his children Timothy (Katie) Hymer, Patricia (Brad) Hymer-Griffith, Ricky (Amanda) Hymer, and Floyd (Kelly) Hymer, his mother Veronica Hymer, his siblings Debbie (Willie) Ybarra, Mike (Tawnya) Hymer, Michelle (Mark) Underwood, Christopher Hymer, as well as his many nieces and nephews, 15 grandchildren, and was due to be a great-grandpa in June.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday May 13, 2023 at Fraternal Order of Eagles 50 South 1st Street Tooele UT 84074 from 5 PM to 9 PM.

In honor of Jim we will be having a celebration of life ride. The ride will be led by his brother Mike. We will meet in the CAL Ranch parking lot in Tooele on May 13, 2023 at 9:00 and should return about 3:00.
