Joyce was born into this world on July 4, 1956 to Will and Thelma Jean Cape in Cundiff, Kentucky. She grew up in Kentucky and Chicago with her 5 younger siblings. As a young woman she moved to California and there she raised her two beautiful daughters. Eventually, she and her husband made the decision to move to Utah, as being close to her children and grandchildren was most important to them.

While in California she followed her dream and put herself through nursing school. She absolutely loved her job and the hands-on interaction she had with her patients. She was a truly exceptional nurse, leading by example, leaving a lasting, positive impact on all those around her. When her own health trials came, she faced them head-on and she wouldn’t let them stop her, thru chemo, radiation, experimental treatments, even working with an oxygen tank on her back, all because she had a God given passion and a genuine love for her patients.

God used circumstances in Joyce’s life to bring her to Him and as an adult in her 40’s, Joyce accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She strived to serve Him, be a blessing and share the gospel with others. She loved having Bible studies with her “mom” and close friend Bettie and also her good friend Caleb. She loved her church and her brothers and sisters in Christ, she was a member of Grace Baptist Church in West Valley City, Utah.

Joyce greatly loved her family and loved spending time with them. Whether it was a fishing outing with her husband and grandchildren, having a fun day of shopping or doing nails and toes with the girls, fun road trips or sister getaways, taking care of her flower garden, cooking, doing crafts, puzzles or curling up with a book and reading to the kids, watching a movie or laughing and reminiscing about the good ol’days and fun memories. She unknowingly touched all those she came in contact with, offering an abundance of patience, kindness, joy, compassion and love. We are truly blessed to have had Joyce in our lives.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister, Debra S. Messina and Ricky W. Cape. On May 12, 2019, at approximately 5am, angels escorted Joyce Voeltz into the immediate presence of her Lord Jesus.
