Mary Alice Stephens Olvera, 70, of Layton, UT passed away on November 27, 2016 peacefully in her sleep warm and comfortable. Her husband Ralphael Enciso Olvera and two daughters Natalie Stephens Wall and Maria Stephens Jones were at her bedside.

Mary was born in Baker, Oregon to Charles Stephens & Francis Vanleuven. During her life, she lived in Oregon, Utah, and California. In her 40's she went back to school at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon and graduated with her RN nursing degree. She used her nursing degree and managed the medications of patients over several group homes (for the mentally disabled & handicapped). She also rewrote the ER manuals for the group homes pertaining to the patients.

Mary’s hobbies include painting, reading murder mysteries, attending countless swim meets, and volleyball, basketball, football & soccer games that her kids & grand-kids competed in. She was a dedicated follower and fan of BYU football & rarely missed a game. She also followed the NCAA men's collegiate basketball games and always watched the final four tournaments. Since she was an RN it wasn't uncommon to find her watching the television shows ER & 48 hours.

Being the faithful woman she was she spent every night reading the Book of Mormon and received many answers from her Heavenly Father through this inspired book. She was a woman of great faith and dedicated many service hours. She was a primary chorister, sacrament chorister, Young Women's Adviser, Temple Worker, and then served an 18-month LDS Mission with her husband Ralph where they assisted the missionaries with medical needs. Her most proud career was the career of being "The Mom" to 9 children! She sacrificed her own needs & wants. She went to great lengths to establish many family traditions that her own children carry on today.

Mary is survived by her husband Ralph Olvera; siblings Joyce Stephens Collins, Gordon Stephens; children David Olvera, Natalie Wall, Crystal Gonzalez, Nick Olvera, Shane Olvera, Cindy Olvera, Sylvia Peterson, Maria Jones, and Kim Floeck. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and sister Janice Stephens Builta.

A grave-side service will be held in Mary’s honor on Friday, December 2nd 2016, at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery, 420 South 400 E, Spanish Fork, UT at 10AM. The service will include a dedication of the grave, and will be followed by a family memory meal at Nick and Felicia Olvera’s residence. The family would like to thank Brighton Home Health and Hospice, Kramer Family Funeral Home, and all those who have sacrificed to join us or who have been a part of Mary's life.
