Richard Edward Martinez

Our dear Old Man Richard Edward Martinez passed away late in the evening of January 28, 2021, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of thirty-six years Connie, and his children Nichole, Lazet, son-in-law Alberto, Shalane, his son Michael and daughter-in-law Qingxiao. Richard is also survived by his brothers and sisters Viola, Nick, Phil, Arlene, Andy, Lora, Joanita, and Jesse. He is leaving behind a bushel of grandchildren: Jason, Justin, Ashley, Maria, Rachel, Jazmine, Jenna, Isaiah, Aspen, Evelyn, Nevaeh, Ellie, Isaac, Hailey, Adam, Ava, Marcus, and his great-granddaughter Aaliyah. Richard is preceded by his father and mother Victor and Fressie, his step-father Leo, and his brothers Amous, Louie, Gilbert, and Ernest.

Richard was born in Ogden Utah on April 26, 1950. He was a colossal sports fan, and if the place he was working had a softball team, he was on it. Football was his absolute favorite; a fan of the Denver Bronco's (depending on the season), the Detroit Lions, and rarely went anywhere without something Ute's Red. If it was football season, come Sunday, you knew that the TV was his.

In his younger days, he enjoyed camping, hiking, family picnics, and long summer drives. A tireless work ethic kept on working right up through 2019, and in the last few years, you could find him on extended weekends in Wendover or on trips to Idaho with his wife or daughters, always trying for that million-dollar jackpot.

He took great pride in his children and their accomplishments and was supportive in both success and failure. Richard, above all else, loved his grandkids. He never missed his grandson Jason's football games and was always all-in on whatever interest his grandkids pursued, whether that meant buying art supplies, notebooks, or finding that little something extra to make a Halloween costume perfect.

He was always ready with a joke and loved nothing more than putting a smile on someone's face. You could always count on him to have the most ridiculous Christmas sweater and there was always a ninety-percent chance that your gift from him was going to be something to make you laugh. Our Old Man wasn't perfect and could be stubborn as a mule, but he had a kind and generous heart, always there with whatever help was needed whenever you needed him. He loved and was loved in return. He will be deeply missed by all that were fortunate enough to have him in their lives.

There will be a viewing for Richard at Kramer Family Funeral Home in West Valley on 2/5/2021 from 4:00 to 6:00 followed by the funeral from 6:00 to 7:00. Due to COVID-19 and space limitations, the funeral will be limited to thirty attendees.
