Stephen E. Martin

Stephen E. Martin, husband, father, grandfa-ther, brother, friend and counselor to so many has died. He passed away at St. Mark’s hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah on Monday December 6th after complications from an aortic dissection.

He was a proud son of Idaho - fourth generation. He was born on March 4th, 1947 to Ernest and Lucille Martin. He grew up working on the family farm in the foothills of Idaho Falls. After graduating from Idaho Falls High School, where he met his first wife Linda, he moved to Evanston, Illinois to attend North-western University. There he earned an undergraduate degree in history and a law degree.

Stephen practiced law in Salt Lake City, Utah before moving home to Idaho Falls where he became a partner at Holden, Kidwell, Hahn and Crapo. In 1998 he started his own practice with his friend and colleague Scott Eskelson, where he served his clients faithfully until the end of his life.

Stephen’s law practice focused on estate law and he was able to offer support and guidance to many farming and ranching families throughout the Intermountain West in some of their most difficult times.

He attended the First Presbyterian Church and served in many leadership roles throughout his life. In 2002 he moved to Swan Valley, ID and was an active part of the Chapel of the Valley community.

He is survived by his second wife Maggie of Swan Valley, ID, his daughter Rachel and husband Luke Hartig of Washington D.C.; his daughter Abigail of Idaho Falls, ID; his son Paul and wife Jacqueline of Boulder, CO and six grandsons.

Stephen was also a loving step-father and grandfather to Jacqueline, Andraya, Jennifer, Belle, Sarah and Michael - along with their children.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyteri-an Church in Idaho Falls, ID on Friday December 17, 2021 at 11am.
