April 24 1949 - June 10 2018

Beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, Steven “Steve” Jay Limb, passed away June 10, 2018, in Salt Lake City, Utah after a hard-fought battle with cancer at the age of 69.

Steve was born on April 24, 1949, in Salt Lake City, Utah and was raised by his parents Byron Limb and Elaine Walker Limb. He grew up with his loving sisters Sharon, Robbyn, and Catherine, and his brother Bryce. Steve was very involved in sports while he grew up playing football. He attended East High School and then continued his education at Westminster College. Steve enrolled in the military and served in the Army Special Forces for 10 years.

Steve met the love of his life, Melanee, in Salt Lake. They were married on August 22, 1980, and shortly thereafter adopted their two sons Chase and Cooper. Steve loved his boys and enjoyed going on their family boat and fishing near Salt Lake, and at his favorite place, Strawberry Reservoir. Steve loved being around his grandson Parker who was the light of his life and always was his little “turkey.” He was looking forward to the birth of his upcoming twin granddaughters from his son Chase and daughter-in-law Holly. Steve’s family meant everything to him and he loved them more than anything in this world.

Steve’s love and passion for hockey spread smiles throughout the hockey communities. Steve began coaching hockey in 1992 and continued to coach for many Salt Lake teams for many years. Steve also enjoyed watching both his sons and his nephew play hockey growing up. Steve celebrated with his nephew, Trevor “Sarah” Lewis, after winning the Stanley Cup for the LA Kings in 2012 and 2014. Steve’s youngest son, Cooper, after graduating high school continued his hockey career in Canada for a Junior A team and soon after attended college at Utah State University and played for their club team. Steve did everything he could to attend and support Cooper at every hockey game and cheer on his son. Cooper recently accepted a position as the assistant coach to the University of Oregon Ducks Hockey organization and Steve strived to attend every game he could as an honorary coach to the team during the 2017-2018 season.

When Steve was not enjoying hockey, he was deep in the wilderness with his son Chase hunting, fishing, and shooting archery. Chase and him loved being in the outdoors together and found a joy in their outdoor adventures.

Steve created happiness for anyone around him with his contagious smile and sarcastic humor. He made friends anywhere and everywhere he went and was known as a kind selfless man that could make your day much better just by his presence.

Steve is survived by his wife Melanee, his son Chase and daughter-in-law Holly, his son Cooper, his grandson Parker, his sister Sharon Hughes, his sister Robbyn and her husband Steve Dunn, his sister Catherine and her husband Dirk Noyes, his brother Bryce and his wife Becky Limb, Lindsay Lewis, Dale Barton, Randy Lewis, his 11 nieces and nephews, his great nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends.

Steve is preceded by his parents Byron Limb and Elaine Walker Limb.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in Steve’s honor to the Oregon Ducks Hockey organization at https://www.oregonduckshockey.com/donate. As he loved the team and was excited to see the program and team grow.
