Johnny (Skip) Holmes passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Salt Lake VA Medical Center. He was born in Salt Lake City on November 22, 1952 to Jack and Ann Holmes. After attending South High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy attending basic training at San Diego RTC, and serving as an aircraft handler on the USS Hancock (CV-19) during Vietnam. Upon returning to Utah after his military service he continued serving his country working at Hill Air Force Base and Tooele Army Depot, later accepting assignments across the country and Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. After retiring from the security department at the depot he spent the rest of his life tinkering in his garage, caring for his many animals, and as an avid NASCAR fan, even traveling to Charlotte, NC in 2008 where he was able to take a lap on the track at Charlotte Motor Speedway as well as visit numerous NASCAR team garages in the area. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lorna Holmes, his son Michael Holmes (Margaret) and his grandkids: Nathanial, Cameron and Ainsley Holmes; Dakkon, Ethan, Kalten and Oliver Toone.
A graveside service will be held at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park, Camp Williams, Bluffdale, Utah on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 1:00pm. Any friends are welcome to attend.
